Divemaster
Become a dive leader.
Overview
Divemasters are experienced scuba divers who serve as guides, mentors and leaders to other divers. If you’re interested in turning your passion for diving and ocean conservation into a part-time or full-time career, the Divemaster course is your first step.

To start a Divemaster training you must be at least 18 years old and have:
-
A Rescue Diver certification
-
At least 40 logged dives
-
CPR and First Aid training in the past 24 months
-
Medical clearance to dive

How long does it take to get your Divemaster?
You must have at least 40 dives to begin the Divemaster course, and reach 60 to achieve the certification. The number of dives needed to complete the course means it can take anywhere between four weeks and six months to attain the certification.
How hard is Divemaster training?
The training conditions are the hardest part and can be very challenging at times:
you'll be working in a team (mostly the same team day in, day out); you'll have to adjust to working conditions and colleagues; you'll be given more responsibility step by step

Divemaster Certification: What’s Involved?

The Divemaster Course is an exciting, rewarding and transformative experience. As a divemaster candidate, you’ll gain the knowledge, tools and experience you need to lead diving activities both independently and alongside other Professionals.

As with other courses, the divemaster course includes knowledge development (in-person and online), confined water practice sessions and open water training. Your Instructor will also lead you through skill workshops and hands-on practical activities.
Discussion topics and workshops include:

-
Assisting with student divers
-
Diver safety and risk management
-
Skill demonstration
-
The business of diving and your career
-
Protecting the diving environment
-
Dive setup and management
-
Mapping a dive site
-

-
Organizing a search and recovery project
-
Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving® programs

Divemaster is the first rung on the professional ladder, so how you interact with your instructor will be a bit different than your diver-level training. Instead of explaining exactly what to do and watching you do it, your instructor will sometimes act as a mentor, providing guidance and plenty of helpful feedback.
After successfully completing your Divemaster training, you’ll receive a Professional Member number and the most rewarding feeling.
What happens?
During the Divemaster course you will learn more about dive theory along with perfecting your dive skills and have fun doing it! You will have one of our very experienced staff members mentoring you as well as the opportunity to learn from other instructors. If you are looking for lots of diving experience and to learn all aspects then you will find the Divemaster course offers all you want.
Internship
The standard time for the Internship option is 4 weeks. You will be assisting our instructors on courses and guided diving as well as fine tuning your dive skills and theory. You will need a minimum of 40 dives to begin this course (or 20 if you will go straight into the IDC with us). You have the opportunity of working first-hand with students and working on the dives alongside experienced professional Instructors in a busy centre catering for many different nationalities and diving in many different dive environments. You will also have the opportunity for hands-on experience with compressor operations, dive centre logistics, and to learn the day-to-day running of a busy dive centre in the Red Sea. Along with plenty of dive experience you will also have tons of fun!
Manuals
You will need an eRDPml and Divemaster crew-pack. Inside the Divemaster crew-pack are:
-
The Instructor manual, Divemaster manual, slates, your application sticker and the encyclopaedia of recreational diving.
FastTrack Option
Although the Divemaster course requirements are the same, the Intensive course is ideal for someone on a tighter schedule. This course can be done in as little as 12 days with a minimum of 50 dives. You must obtain and have studied the materials before starting your course with Poseidon. E-learning is an option.
eLearning
Complete the Theory through E-Learning and spend more time diving on your holiday! You will be able to complete all of the sessions at your leisure whether in the evenings or even during your lunch break! Once you have completed the course online you will get an E-Learning completion form that you will need to bring with you to complete your course. This means more time diving and less time studying so you can really enjoy your holiday! The fee you pay for this service includes the cost of the manual.
“I arrived in Egypt where I was welcomed by Joe and a pre arranged taxi. Thanks to JP, this was really good as I did not have to worry about getting transport from Sharm to Dahab. Throughout being at Poseidon JP organised everything making the whole process easy. As someone who had never been diving before, I was both excited and nervous to try my first dive. Again I was greeted by Joe at the dive centre and he started to brief me on the dive we were about to do over breakfast cooked by Hamada, the onsite chef who I recommend as all the food was to a high quality. After the briefing all my pre nerves were gone due to the detailed plan as we set up the kit, the dive went well and so did the rest of my open water diving with help from Joe and Dave. I enjoyed every second of being at Poseidon and really want to go back! I would recommend Poseidon 100% especially for first time divers or anyone who wants an experience vast marine life of the red sea. I felt part of the Poseidon family but to top it off they are the best dive centre in Dahab both on price and value for money. Other centers didn't compare to Poseidon, if you are looking for a dive centre in Dahab this should be your first choice. Hope to see you guys soon!!!

Typical Day
A Day
You'll start your day earlier than other customers as you will help to prepare for the day's scuba diving. O2 needs to be checked, tanks readied etc. You'll be expected to use some initiative, but you'll work closely with your instructor, anticipating his needs. You'll also have your own goals to meet, such as mapping a dive site.
By the end of the course you will be a dive member, qualified to lead dives and assist instructors as a teaching assistant. You will have exceptional dive skills and a wide range of knowledge about dive theory. The next step is to become an Instructor.
* There is no certification cost, but rather a membership fee that is renewed annually.
